Contracting Information
Select a contracting period below to view important dates, bedspace selection, check-in instructions, fees, and other details for that term.
Students must submit a housing application before they can be offered or select a bedspace. Contracting dates and processes vary by semester.
This section applies to newly admitted students, deferred and returning missionaries, and any other students not currently living in On-Campus Housing. Current on-campus residents should follow the intentions process.
Before you contract — Submit a housing application for Winter Semester 2027 on your housing account. You must have a housing application on file before you can be offered a bedspace or select one.
Per the BYU Student Housing Policy, single undergraduate students agree to live in BYU On-Campus Housing, BYU Off-Campus Contracted Housing, or with qualifying family members during their first two semesters as BYU students.
How Winter 2027 contracting works — Winter 2027 uses an offer-based process rather than an assigned contracting date and time.
Students receive an offer for an available bedspace based on the preferences submitted in their housing application. Offer information is sent through the housing message board, which you access by clicking My Housing Account at housinginfo.byu.edu.
After preferences have been reviewed, bedspaces that were not requested open for general contracting. Open contracting began October 12, 2026.

Check-in — Winter Semester 2027 check-in runs January 2 through January 5, 2027. New Student Orientation is January 4 and 5. Classes begin January 6. Arrivals on January 2 or 3 are early arrivals and are charged $15 per night. Below are the check-in hours for each housing area.

Waiting list — If a bedspace in your preferred area is not available, we strongly encourage you to contract for another available bedspace rather than waiting. You may also add your name to the waiting list by selecting Yes in your housing application and resubmitting it.
Waiting list ranking — Offers are made to students on the waiting list in this order:

Preferred roommate requests — Preferred roommate requests are not accepted for Winter Semester–only agreements. They are available for Fall-Winter agreements only.
Fees — A $50 processing fee and a $100 deposit are charged when you submit your agreement. Both appear in My Financial Center under Unpaid Charges and can take up to two weeks to display. The processing fee is nonrefundable.

This section applies to students seeking On-Campus Housing for Spring Term 2027 and/or Summer Term 2027. Key dates have not been finalized yet and will be posted here once they are approved.

How Spring and Summer 2027 contracting works — After you submit a housing application, Residence Life will assign you a date and time to select a bedspace and sign an agreement. Your contracting date and time will be posted to your housing message board, which you access by clicking My Housing Account at housinginfo.byu.edu.
Separate agreements — Spring and Summer each require their own agreement. If you want housing for both terms, you need to sign a Spring Term 2027 agreement and a separate Summer Term 2027 agreement.
A contracting date and time does not guarantee that a bedspace will be available.
Getting ready by student group
When a new message is posted to your housing message board, you’ll also receive an email at your BYU email address letting you know it’s there.

Preferred roommate requests — Preferred roommate requests are available for Fall-Winter agreements only and are submitted through your housing application. Requests must be mutual to be honored and may not always be able to be met. Preferred roommates who have contracted for a room together are unable to change to a different bedspace, request a bedspace swap, or request to be on the waiting list.
Waiting list — If a bedspace in your preferred area is not available, we strongly encourage you to contract for another available bedspace rather than waiting. You may also add your name to the waiting list by selecting Yes in your housing application and resubmitting it.
